Dermal Fillers

A popular method to reduce wrinkles uses injectable fillers to smooth and plump out wrinkles, crow's feet, laughter lines, some types of sunken scars, cheeks and lips. The filler is injected using a fine needle, until your facial lines and wrinkles are 'filled out'. Different substances are used as fillers.

Mr Nduka only uses temporary fillers as he feels that permanent fillers can leave the face looking inharmonious in the future - lips of a 30 year-old will not be appropriate at 60. A more natural alternative is fat transfer for deeper folds and wrinkles, but this may require a general anaesthetic.

Fat transfer

In fat transfer, also known as liposculpture, fat is taken from one area of your body, such as the thighs or stomach, and injected into another area to fill it out. The advantage here is that you are only using your own cells and the results last longer.   In fact although the technique seems a little more invasive (and expensive) than having a dermal filler such as hyaluronic acid, the results are longer lasting and it can be more cost effective in the long term.

Fat transfer can be used on your face to improve the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet, laughter lines, some types of scar, sunken cheeks and other indented areas of skin. It can also be used to fill out the back of your hands.

During fat transfer Mr Nduka will identify a suitable donor site and make a small cut in the area. A tube is then placed into the incision site and fat is removed into a syringe. Fat cells are then inserted into the destination area to create the desired effect.

After the procedure, you'll need to wear a dressing over the area for a few days.

It is normal for some of the fat to be reabsorbed by your body therefore the procedure may need to be repeated to obtain the final result.

Liposculpture may be used in conjunction with other treatments such as chemical peels to treat severe facial wrinkles.

All procedures carry risks as well as benefits. The chance of complications following liposculpture depends on the site of treatment and other factors such as your general health and smoking. Mr Nduka will explain how the risks apply to you.
