Eyelid Reduction (Blepharoplasty)

Saggy eyes and laughter lines can make you look much older and more tired than you actually feel. The skin around the eyes is often the first place to show signs of ageing. As you age, your skin sags, eyelid muscle weakens and bags begin to show. Plenty of factors contribute to this such as sun damage, smoking, stress and tiredness.

We understand how important it is to keep that glint in your eyes and an eyelid reduction (or blepharoplasty) can make a big difference in how you look and feel about yourself. The procedure removes the excess skin and fat from your upper and lower eyelids, giving a more alert and youthful appearance.

While eyelid surgery can correct those drooping tired eyes and puffy bags, it can't eliminate dark circles under your eyes, remove crow's feet, or lift sagging eyebrows.

The operation is performed under a general anaesthetic and you will stay in hospital for up to two nights. The surgeon will make incisions in your eyelids, trimming some of the skin away and removing any underlying fat. The cuts are stitched and are usually removed within four or five days.

You may feel some soreness and discomfort after the surgery and you will have to keep your head raised for a few days. This will help minimise the swelling. There will be bruising but it will be at its worst during the first week and then gradually reduce in the following two weeks.

Mr Nduka will talk to you about any risks associated with the procedure. The chance of complications following blepharoplasty depends on the type of operation and other factors such as your general health.
