Long-term follow-up
It is important to have regularly scheduled mammograms (a type of x-ray on the breast) on the opposite breast and if you have an implant only, then mammography will also be done on that breast. If you have had a tissue flap reconstruction, you do not need a mammogram of that reconstructed breast but will continue with screening of the other breast. If your breast was removed because of cancer you will continue with routine oncology follow-up that will be arranged for you by your breast surgeon and oncologist. If we have performed the mastectomy your breast surgeon will give you the results about two weeks after the operation. We will arrange an appointment for you, before you are discharged from the hospital.
